In both personal and professional life, as well as in business, it is crucial to constantly reassess where we want to go, who we have to support us in this endeavor, but most importantly, to take the necessary actions to achieve these goals, knowing that there will be setbacks along the way.
Many authors have written about the acronym "VUCA", which stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. This concept, when applied to business, implicitly seeks to explain the constant reality of today’s world: change, and the resilience we must cultivate to remain relevant.
Thinking within this mindset is a great facilitator for rethinking strategies, adapting new work methodologies, different ways of operating, thinking, and challenging ourselves and our organizations, with the ultimate goal of shifting the paradigm of action while always seeking to reinvent ourselves and our organizations.
On the one hand, it is essential to challenge ourselves, but it becomes more impactful if you also incorporate the necessary motivation into the equation to make it a reality. For this, there is another concept coined a little over 10 years ago by Professor Katherine Milkman from the Wharton School of Business, called "The Fresh Start Effect." This refers to the psychological momentum where people feel more motivated to engage in long-term projects, reevaluate their priorities, and professional goals, for example, after a birthday, the start of a new calendar or school year, new projects, etc.
Although there is no exact, perfect, or ideal moment to embark on a new beginning, the most important step is to start NOW. Begin planting the seeds today and water them consistently day by day.
